7 days to go
Last week was a holiday away from Northampton so I took the opportunity to run around the Lancashire coast around Thurnham and Glasson, flat roads, coastal paths, great views on some days and not much traffic on the minor roads.
Monday was supposed to be a shorter recovery run after the long run on Sunday, but it was a beautiful cold, crisp frosty morning so I headed to the coastal path running along the edge of Morecambe Bay past Cockerham Abbey a great but bleak location for a run. I ran for 6.65 miles in 66'14" at 9'58" pace. We the headed into the Lake District - it was crowded for half term - great views, bracing walk at Hardness Roman Fort. Tuesday was a short hills session with 12x1minute (200m) up hill sets with 2 mins downhill recovery. A great session if somewhat boring and bemusing to the locals! Wednesday was an evening run with the sun setting, again headed to the coastal footpath, great tricks of light as the sun was setting and birds swarming and feeding on the mud flats - I arrived back in the dark!
Thursday was a rest day, although I did drive back to Northampton for meetings and took the opportunity to see Zoe for some work on the neck and shoulders. Friday was the replacement for Thursday's effort session with 1 mile warm-up, 3 miles (21'50") fast managing with strong winds and then 1 mile recovery - this was a hard session, legs complained!. We headed back to Northampton on Saturday morning so I took the opportunity for an early run round Glasson as the sun was rising on a clear sky with heavy cloud on the hills over the Lakes. I joined the WRR Sunday run from Ladybridge Shelfleys park on Sunday morning, adding a bit on to the start and end so I could get my 12 miles for the last long run - there was plenty of stop and starts as we crossed farmed land at the stiles, a good opportunity to chat.
I have now printed out my race registration form as well all the other tickets that I need - still need to book my seat on the plane but I cannot do that until Thursday morning - 24 hours before the flight. I will be running in the first wave starting at 9.40am, I am in the blue start with the professional and elite athletes although a bit further back from them so I will not get in the way. The next update will be when I get back but I will update Facebook in NY as I get there and get around and the results. The race results will be on the marathon web site live - my race number is 8544.
