Getting ready for New York

Well that's it I have to go, I have now booked my flights flying out on Friday morning and back on Monday overnight.  A short visit but enough to run the race and experience the New York marathon.  I will be going on my own as Cath cannot have more time off work, she took time off for Austria for the Ironman.
It's been a relaxed training week not following any set schedule.  I was looking forward to a bike ride on Wednesday but the weather put a stop to that so I sent for a spin class instead - I enjoyed the class but would much prefer to be on the riding outside, mind you it is better than a turbo session in the garage.
It was raining on Thursday so the WRR session was very wet training with Group 4.  I enjoyed the session, it felt good to stretch out in the efforts but it also convinced me that I should try Group 3 next week - will have to see if it is to big a step as yet.
On Friday I wet for a lunchtime swim during the adults only time at Esporta - swam for 40 minutes, 1,400m in a number of sets, felt good although annoying at the end as a slow breastroke swimmer came into the lane I had to myself.  Mind you I suspect the swimmer would have gone into the other parts of the pool but it seems that some parents still let their children into the adults session and the staff are not overly concerned. (boring old man moment!)
Saturday the weather dawned fine, the sun was out, light winds and ready for a bike ride with the club.  Headed to the community centre for 9am, good sized group with several ironman finishers in the group. We headed off to Everdon Stubbs just to test our legs on that hill.  It was a good ride, I felt strong on the Stubbs, finishing the ride with energy to spare.  I could have gone for a run but decided to go to the gym instead to do a strength session as I hadn't done one for a while - again I felt good enjoying the session.  With the bike and gm session I ended up doing a three and half hour session.
The plan for the afternoon was to cut the grass and do the other garden work I hadn't done since before I went on holiday - 5 weeks since I had cut the grass.  The front lawn took ages to do as I had to get rid of a large number of large mushrooms, the large anthills that had formed and then it started raining gently at first then heavy.  I now have to face the back garden with long wet grass - perhaps Sunday.
