Last weekend
Well, the weekend is over, the training is over, it's all focused on getting ready and going to Austria this week.
It was a beautiful morning, bright sunshine, flat lake and warm water. Steady swim, emphasis on sighting and trying to swim in a straight line and just enjoying the swim. The 3 laps took 59'58" with the first lap the fastest. Then a leisurely transition to go for a run with Rob and Stuart. It was hot already so we set off at a steady pace following the river towards Bedford. My plan was for less than a hour's run turning back at the bridge just outside Bedford. Ron turned back with me and Stuart continued for a full 19 miles run! I ran for 55'47" covering 6.48 miles at 8'37" per mile. The run was comfortable, chatting for the whole run, but the HR data was on a steady ascent the whole run...
The afternoon was a get together BBQ with the Austria team, plus Fran at Frankfurt on the same day. We all chatted about how we felt, the journey, when we get there, the race, but we all agreed we were ready for the race, the 12 months waiting and training will deliver. And of course England lost so we will not be disturbed by the games next week, although other nations may still be watching the football. I checked the weather forecast and water temperature, the forecast is 30C with clear skies, the water temperature is 21C so wetsuits will still be the order of the day. Just got to pack the next few days and make sure I am clear for work from Wednesday so I can a quiet few days until Sunday.
