A good weekend
Only 2 more weekends to go before the IM, it is feeling slightly odd now as I get into that pre-race period where you have done the work that is going to make the difference and you are tapering to the day itself. It's been hot in Klagenfurt, the lake temperature if getting warm, but lots could happen in the next 3 weeks.
The training has gone well this weekend.
The Saturday bike ride as planned for 3 hours. I headed off out going south for a flatter route but just round the corner I met up with the IM group and joined-in even though they were heading north to the hills! I rode with them as far as Naseby and then turned back, they were planning a 6 hour ride. The weather was cooler than last week so much pleasnater cycling although still having to watch the hydration. I rode for 2 hours 58'19", covering 47.93mph averaging 16.1mph - slower than last week but with more hills! My HR data is still interetsing as I have spiokes that suggest my HR is over 200bpm at times so I am just looking out of interest now as it is no longer a reliable training guide. When I got back I went for a brick run covering 5.02miles in 45'33" at 9' mile pace. A good run along the canal and back via Milton Malsor.
The afternoon was about getting the aero wheels on the bike. Off to Pitsford Cycles for some bits line valve extenders and carbon specific brake pads, then off to Parky's to get the cassette transferred from my training wheels onto the aero wheels, and then spent waht seemed like ages getting the tyres onto the new wheels - just hope that I can change them faster at the IM otherwise I would be losing alot of time.
This morning at Box End in time to be in the water by 8am so had the full hour to use. The water was fresher thna it has been but still not cold and at least it was flat with no wind to whip up the waves. I swam for 59'47" covering 3 laps about 2,400m. I felt OK with the swim but was expecting a faster time. I strong WRR turnout this morning, including Josie and Cath Reilly who both commented that they could hear me when I was swimming, apparently its my singing!!! Even though I wasn't scheduled for a run I decided to join the IM group for a run as it is very pleasant running alongside the river from Box End into Bedford. I ran with the group for 1 hour before turning back and reversing the route. It was good to run with the group, to chat and just enjoy the morning. I ran for 2hours 3'14" covering 13.7miles with an average pace of 9' mile pace. My HR data was interesting because when I was running with the group it was lower than when I was running on my own when I was running at a slower pace even through I was heading up river the height gain was marginal - not sure if I should read anything into it!
When I got back I had to play catch up with some gardening as the grass needed cutting and some weeding needed to be done. I will be looking to see if I can cut the hedges next week but at 100m it is hard work and takes a long time to tidy up collecting all the cuttings and getting rid of them.
It was good to see that the LAMM was a good race with good weather on Saturday and improving today. The mid-point campsite looked fantastic a real mountain campsite with few flat spots in site. It also looked a good result for the 2 Wootton teams with Martin and Paul doing well in the D class and Andrey in the scoring class. It will be good to hear the stories and see the pictures later this week.
