Snow and sunshine for the bike and a brick run

The plan was a 3 hour ride in HR zone 1.  The discussions on Friday night suggested that no one else would be riding due to the snow and ice - they were doing spinning or turbo sessions.  I did consider a long turbo session, at least I would be able to stay in zone 1 but it would be boring.  When I got up the sky was clear, the old snow frozen but the road looked clear - I decided I was going for a sole ride.  Those plans didn't last long as Andrey phoned at 8am to see if I was riding so we agreed to go out together and when I got to the community centre Carey was there as well.
The ride to the community centre was slower than normal as I took all the bends very carefully but no real problems as you could see the ice - it was cold though.
We set off for Hanslope, we would see what the road was like and review our options.  The roads were OK you just had to be careful for any frozen streaks of water across the road.  Before we reached Hanslope the snow was gone, the sun was warming us and roads so it all became a lot easier.  At Hanslope we turned off for the Castlethorpe route - much better route idea from Parky to get to Stony Stratford.  We continued round to Whittlebury and back via Stoke Breune, some ice in places but mostly slush by now in the sun.  The loop back took us via Ashton and Harwell and then a quick push through Salcey.  I left Andrey and Carey to head back to the community centre and I went home with a loop through Collingtree and Milton Malsor to reach my 3 hour target.  I enjoyed the ride: it wasn't a zone 1 ride averaging 119bpm, but I did keep the cadence high with an average of 87rpm using the small triple ring today in places.  42.61 miles, 2hours 58'36" at average of 14.5mph.
The run was scheduled for 30 minutes straight after the bike ride - reasonably quick turnaround at home to get into the ruinning kit. I went to do the Pineham circuit as I find it easier to control my HR as the slopes are gentle.  In the end I ran for 40'40", covered 3.75miles at 10'50" mile pace with an average HR of 123 with a maximum of 128 so really pleased to have been in the target most of the time and only over a few bpm. The run felt easy apart from the first few minutes as the legs settled down after the bike ride.
