Roadworks and snow!
Wednesday started with a swim intermediate skills session and then a physio massage session with Zoe.
The swim session involved a number of sets first of all using the fins and then same without - the set with out fins took a lot longer. The breath control sets always start well with 20m every 3 strokes, same for 4 and 5 strokes, however, I cannot do a full length breathing every 6 strokes as I usually run out of breath after half a length. The session finished with a stroke count set. I didn't complete the full session as I ran out of time, 56'51" for 1,840m. I did try to swim the session applying the learning points from my video session on Monday, especially trying to move my hips less and see if I can glide more and keep my body straight on each stroke - yet more to think about.
A quick rush home for something to eat before heading off to see Zoe who worked on my pelvis and legs with determination and some success. It is a long term plan that will pay dividends.
The rest of the day was a trip to visit Cath's dad in Halifax. It should have been a quick trip up the M1 and M62, unfortunately roadworks got in the way, only a slight delay going up but a major delay on the way back home. The weather in Halifax was wintry, looked good on the fields with deep snow drifts still to be seen.
After yesterday and all the travel I was tired and decided to have a bit of a lie-in before heading to work. The day should have included a quick trip to Coventry, but I hadn't allowed for the M1 being closed and having to go cross country. Mind you the journey back was even more fun as the effects of the M1 closure were still causing problems on the road so I went cross country, unfortunately it had started to snow by then so the roads were tricky. I didn't take the most direct route on the country roads as I was disorientated as the snow made the roads look different - I have no trouble finding my way on the bike but today I did in the car. It was fun driving on the snowy roads with the car doing well.
After work I went to the gym for my normal core and upper body workout. Not many people in the gym, probably the snow keeping people away. When I got back home instead of going to to WRR for a run as the speed sessions wouldn't have been running I went for a run from home on the Pineham, Upton loop for 7.45 miles at 8'36" mile pace. It wasn't good snow for a run but it was good to get out. More snow still dalling so not sure whether this will still be here on Saturday and get in the way of the bike ride - lets see!
