Sunny day for a swim and a ride
I was looking forward to today as the weather forecast was good and I had planned to swim before the bike ride to provide some catch up for sessions missed this week due to work pressures.
I seem to be missing getting up on time a few times recently, the same today, I didn't arrive at the pool until 8am. It shouldn't matter its adults only until 9am however there were some kids in when I arrived. I went in the outside pool as no one else was swimming in it, the air was cold, the water warm with the sun still coming up. The main swimming session was three 320m sets at an even pace with some technique work before. The session was 1640m in total in 49 mins 10 secs with an average efficiency according to my swimming watch of 52. Mind you I still managed to get sets that were 360m twice due to miscounting.
It felt good to be back on the bike. I didn't go on back roads to avoid what I expect to be major potholes and masses of debris from the recent cold weather. I was meant to be doing a session with the majority of my time in HR zone 2 with 5 min sessions at HR zone 3 every 20 mins. I managed to stop to this plan the majority of the time, a few inconvenient hills meant that at times I slipped into HR zone 4. I headed out to Newport Pagnall and then planned to head back via Haversham, Hanslope and Salsey. My plans were thwarted when the road to Haversham was flooded so a quick U turn and headed back via Olney, Yardley Hastings and Denton. A total of 41 miles, 2hours 45 mins duration with an average cadence of 91. The whole ride in sunshine, light breezes and no rain.
The rest of the day highlight was a foot through the ceiling of Gavin's room. I was tidying up after Christmas and putting the decorations and other bits in the loft and put my foot in the wrong place! Heavy bruising on the inside left leg, hoping it will not cause any problems with the training this week.
