Its got cold again!
The Friday swim isn't affected by the cold weather, just a warm pool to get into. Tonight's session was a repeat of the last two weeks - we are all looking for a change for next week. Quick'ish 200 warm up with 6 in the lane by the end, although not all managed to do the full warm up. The into the sets, first off with one set of 8 lengths, then next into 6 sets of 4 lengths when all the lane discipline broke down for a while and we slowed overall as a group using longer rests between sets to ensure we were not catching up with the slower swimmers. For got to take the swimming watch tonight, but still reckon when all is added together completed 1,850 metres in the hour.
Saturday's forecast was to be cold probably below freezing all morning with sunshine from the start. From discussions at the swimming it looked like it would be a small group riding on Saturday, others riding Sunday when it will still be cold or going to the gym for a spin session instead.
Saturday morning was cold, minus 2C at 9am, but still found 4 of us at the community centre where I was joined by Caroline, Parky and Stuart. Caroline and Parky were planning a 2 hour ride, mine was for 3 and a half hours so I would add on at some point. The route took us out to Hanslope, Cosford and then to Whittlebury via Stony Stratford where we split, Stuart joined me as we headed of to Buckingham. The road was icy in a few places but generally good, you could easily see the ice as it was generally run off from fields. The ride into Buckingham from Whittlebury is a good road, a few short sharp hills, but generally good road surfaces. By the time we got to Buckingham there was snow on the ground, not much but it was there. From Buckingham headed up to Stowe, the road is fantastic as you pull uphill and can see the arch on the hilltop in the distance. We then headed round to Silverstone, back to Whittlebury and round home via Hartwell and Wootton. My total ride was 54.59 miles, in 3 hours 43 minutes, average cadence 88. I didn't manage to keep within the planned HR ranges within the ride plan. It was a good ride, in cold conditions with fingers and toes cold for most of the ride.
