The bike's still in the garage!

I didn't think it would happen. It should have been a bright January morning, a good day for a bike ride. Unfortunately it wasn't to be, perhaps if I had a mountain bike or something similar but I haven't. My training plan was for a two and half hour low intensity bike ride. Whilst I was ready to go for a turbo session in the garage, I wasn't going for that long.
A cunning plan was conceived. I would do an extra swim session and then come back for the turbo session, just had to get up early if I was to swim before the lessons started. As it was I didn't get to Esporta until 7.50am which only gave me a few minutes inside before the lessons started so I went outside, not to bad on -2C but the water was warm enough but my head was cold, perhaps I need to take a swimming hat for outside when it is cold. I was quite pleased with the swim session as I did over 2k of mixed drills and pace sets in an hour. I also looked at my swimming efficiency on watch and was surprised to find that it was 48 at best and 58 at worst which suggest I was in the average range - very reassuring: thanks to Parky for reminding me to look at the efficiency index.
The bike ride on the turbo was commenced once I got home. Different music today on the iPod, listened to Catherine Jenkins and Gabrielle, not my normal listening but mostly high energy music to help me along. A 90 minute session in 10 minute sets each with a different cadence and heart rate target meant the session went well, although my feet were freezing by the time I finished, I was pleased I had decided to do two sports today.

I decided with Steve today that I should enter the VOtwo 3.8km long swim at Box End on the 6th June as it would go alongside a 100 mile bike ride the day before and perhaps a long run after the swim as the following week is the start of my taper before the Ironman itself. Now that I am thinking about my taper it seems odd given that the training hasn't really started. Who is counting down the days and hours, not me, but definitely looking forward to the day.
