A little update - London Marathon - today and 35 years ago!
The Virgin London Marathon VLM is an iconic race in the UK race calendar. It's now a 'local' race for me, my club Wootton Road Runners arrange a coach for the day so very easy logistics. My first London medal I first ran the London Marathon in 1983. A very different race, well before social media, mobile phones, chip timing, on-line race entries and saturation television coverage. It was still a big race. To enter, I joined a long line of runners to 'post' my entry form at midnight at Birmingham Royal Mail. I was lucky I got a place. As well as the iconic race itself, what was memorable was that my wife, Catherine, was heavily pregnant adding to the race day challenges. The course was different, the Docks were still the old docks, we ran through the Tower of London and finished on Westminster bridge.
